The Real "How-To" on TMMSM
Smart companies and quality professionals don’t wait until a catastrophic event to review (and change) their testing process. However, when an event occurs or the users revolt, upper management’s demands for an immediate fix can waste money without solving the problem.
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) outlines the need for a controlled and improved testing process. In the Capability Maturity Model (CMM®) and the Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI®), the key process areas (KPA) and process areas (PA) don’t address testing until Level 3, and they are not sufficient for the entire testing process.
The Testing Maturity Model (TMMSM) was developed by Dr. Ilene Burnstein of the Illinois Institute of Technology. Mr. Staab saw the significant value of TMMSM, and started using it with clients in 2003. His e-book, The Real “How-To” on TMMSM, is a simple and easily understood “real-world” explanation of TMMSM. In his book, Mr. Staab discusses not just the why of TMMSM, but outlines “how to” implement the goals and sub-goals of TMMSM to improve the software testing process. |
